Parents have been urged to pack a frozen drink in their children’s lunchboxes to help keep sandwiches cool and reduce the risk of food poisoning. A NSW Food Authority survey examined 766 lunchboxes at Sydney primary schools and found that more than 70 per cent of students could be at risk of getting sick from a bacterial infection because their food got too warm. According to the survey, sandwiches and other meals packed without a cold source were 12C warmer than those with a frozen drink or ice block, increasing the risk of food poisoning.

Food Authority Tips:
1. Buy an ice block and an insulated lunchbox (available at ShopHouse - click here to view range) to keep food cold until lunch.
2. Freeze water bottles or drinks: put them in insulated lunchboxes.
3. Keep lunches out of sunlight.
4. If lunches are made the night before, keep them in the fridge overnight.

Art Sydney

Art Est. Kids Art Workshops at Art Sydney 2009
Ensuring a fantastic day out for all the family, the Art Est. Art School workshops for kids allow you to explore the show at your leisure whilst your children enjoy a hands-on art experience in a supervised, stimulating environment.
Best of all, every child gets to take home their own Art Sydney masterpiece!
Kids can collaborate with other young artists and sculptors including Art Est. tutor and Sculpture by the Sea artist Linda Bowden to create magnificent works of art using found and recycled objects. See it evolve over the weekend at Art Sydney!
The art workshops are an imaginative art activity for kids over 5 years. Younger children are also welcome if Mum, Dad or their carer joins in too.
Workshops are either one hour or 30 minute sessions, and will be held at The Weekend Australian Art Sydney between the following times:
Friday 23 October: 12.00-4.00pm
Saturday 24 October: 10.30am-4.00pm
Sunday 25 October: 10.30am-4.00pm
A one hour workshop is just $12, with a special sibling rate of $10 for each additional child and includes all materials.
Half hour workshop are $6 for the first child, and $5 each additional sibling.
You don’t need to book, simply turn up on the day and find us inside the entrance, near the Sculpture by the Sea exhibits.

It makes me feel sick to the pit of my stomach when I see children in cars who are not in a proper carseat. Please people, get it right. Check out the ‘new rules about child restraints’ and take heed:
From 9 November 2009, children will need to use a child restraint or booster seat until their seventh birthday. The types of approved restraints or booster seats wont change, but children will need to use them for longer. The changes mean that:

These new rules will help to keep children safer when travelling in vehicles. Come on parents, don’t be lazy with this. Just because you’re only ‘going around the corner’ doesn’t give you the right to place your child in danger by letting them sit up next to you in the front seat.
